Overview
Business Advisory Services Inc. is a Barbadian company established in 1997 to provide audit and assurance, accounting, tax as well as other business advisory services to clients.
Our audit and assurance services cover statutory, project and special audits. In addition, we conduct review and compilation engagements for clients who may not require an audit to be done.
A wide selection of our clients prefer to outsource their bookkeeping and accounting functions at varying levels, and we are here to support their specific needs. We also help to set up small and medium-sized businesses as well as design their accounting systems, including the preparation of accounting manuals and policy guidelines.
Corporate as well as individual tax planning and management services are also provided, together with other financial and management consulting services. These include but are not limited to the preparation of cash flow projections, business plans, feasibility studies and special reviews.
We have over seventy-five (75) clients in various sectors of the economy, including not-for-profit organizations. We have been instrumental in assisting many small and medium businesses in the growth and development of their operations. Furthermore, we stand ready with a highly qualified, dedicated and competent staff to provide assistance to any organization that requires sound, reliable business advice.
Peter Downes
Our C.E.O.
Mr. Downes is a Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Business Advisory Services Inc. He has had a broad and successful professional career as a chartered accountant and senior human resource professional. He holds an honors degree in Accounting from the University of the West Indies and is a Fellow Chartered Professional Accountant (FCPA) and a Fellow Certified Management Accountant (FCMA) in Canada, as well as a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Barbados (FCA).
He has also completed the Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) designation of the HR Certification Institute (HRCI) along with Society of Human Resource Management Senior Certified Professional designation (SHRM-SCP) both in the United States. He is currently a member of SHRM and the Human Resource Association of Barbados (HRMAB).
Mr. Downes has over forty-five (45) years’ experience in the accounting field working in the professional accounting, financial services and oil industries. He has been a practising accountant since 1980, starting initially part-time and then entering into full time practice in 1994. He has also spent a total of seven and a half years working in two professional accounting firms.
Mr Downes has over thirty-five (35) years’ senior management experience and prior to taking the bold step to establish his own businesses, he was the President and Chief Executive Officer of a leading regional, insurance company. Because of his extensive knowledge and experience, he has been the Team Leader in a number of professional services engagements. His wide experience and training over the years has helped to provide tremendous assistance to the development of mainly small and medium-sized businesses in Barbados. He was the recipient of the 2003 Barbados Small Business Association (SBA) Award for Excellence in Entrepreneurship and their 2008 Entrepreneur of the Year and Sectoral Group Award for Professional Services. The University of the West Indies- Cave Hill Campus made him the Alumnus of the Month in February, 2009 for his contribution to entrepreneurship.
Mr. Downes is currently a Director of Gildan group of companies and for over eighteen (18) years, he has been a Director for BICO Limited, a public company in Barbados. He is also a Director of New World Capital Inc. (a Western Union representative in Barbados). He has sat on the Executive Council and Council of the Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) for four years and has chaired the Board of BCCI-BEC Holdings Inc. In addition, he was a Director of the Barbados Tourism Authority and the SBA Enterprises Inc.
A Rotarian for more than 30 years, he was a Past President of the Rotary Club of Barbados West and Past District Secretary for Rotary in the Caribbean region. In 2003, 2012 and again in 2015, his Club made him a Paul Harris Fellow, one of Rotary International’s highest honours. He later served as the Rotary District Governor’s representative in Barbados from 2015 to 2018.
